VFXMarketplace.com was set up by Emmy award winning VFX supervisor Tim Webber and Peter Horne, to solve the problem of buyers reliably outsourcing visual effects to competitive suppliers whose quality of work is verified on a global scale.
The procurement application required a Dutch auction engine to allow the suppliers to competitively bid on work they were interested in. Built on the Sugar Cube platform, the application is able to handle digital assets that are needed for every task uploaded for auction. A supplier is able to view these assets before deciding to bid.
Solid State Group successfully met the clients brief and delivered to a very tight timescale, allowing VFXMarketplace.com to go live on time and on budget. The site has introduced hundreds of visual effects artists from around the globe to potential buyers, allowing them to develop trusted quality ratings for work completed for major VFX houses.
The future for VFXMarketplace.com looks rosy as initial results show a large decrease in outsourcing VFX work without a decrease in quality.
