Android apps

For those of you with iPhones, you may be familiar with an app called instapaper. Ben rates this as his number one iPhone app and so far hasn't been available on the android market. So in true Solid State Group fashion, if we can't find it on the net, we just make it.

Introducing BenPaper 1.0!

BenPaper1

BenPaper

BenPaper is an Android application that takes an RSS feed (it works with any RSS feed) like the one available on instapaper and downloads all the content into a mini database on your phone so that you can read it when you're offline like on the tube or in a plane. The application uses the Android platforms background processes to download the information in the background every 15 minutes, so you don't even need to remember to hit update before you get on the tube.

It's our first Android application and took about a day to create test and deploy to the market. It's all Java so we're pretty used to the language and libraries so now we are pleased to announce that we can create android apps for all our clients.

Some of you might still be thinking what is Android? Or why not concentrate on the iPhone. Well we think 2010 is going to be the year of the mobile (no really this time) and Android is going to be the market leader by the end of the year.

So watch this space, we're going to have more apps coming out soon.

This is great! Instapaper is the one app I miss most from the iPhone as well. One problem and one tiny feature request: 1. When you rotate the screen, it sends you back to the top of the article instead of preserving your place. On longer articles, this can be very annoying. 2. It'd be nice to adjust the font size. It's so small! (On my Hero at least)
